Overall Job Purpose
As an Assistant Manager, you will play a crucial role in our expanding financial reporting advisory national team, primarily focusing on clients in the London and Southern regions. Your responsibilities will include supporting the wider team and assisting managers in delivering profitable services across a portfolio of corporate clients. Your focus will be on technical accounting, financial reporting, and consolidations, applying accounting standards under FRS 102, IFRS, and FRS 101. You will also work on group reconstructions, GAAP conversions, technical accounting papers, and provide acquisition accounting support, including preparing and managing statutory accounts.
The rapid growth of the department offers opportunities to enhance your skill set, including business development and coaching junior staff. You will collaborate with various colleagues and businesses across the UK while also supporting your local office. A strong understanding of UK GAAP and IFRS accounting principles is essential, as financial reporting advisory projects often take the form of detailed reports, making strong writing skills necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Support: Assist managers in delivering complex accounting projects for clients, including IFRS transition consultancy, acquisition accounting, and complex consolidations.
- Technical Knowledge Development: Maintain an advanced level of technical knowledge through relevant reading and courses, meeting CPD requirements, and staying informed about the firm’s specialist services and publications.
- Client Communication: Serve as a key point of contact for clients, addressing any issues or concerns, and communicating them to the manager or partner, while also proposing potential solutions.
- Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of clients and projects, ensuring excellent client care, effective project management, and oversight of work-in-progress and billing.
- Department Collaboration: Work closely with other departments, especially audit and tax teams, to ensure deadlines are met and significant issues are resolved promptly.
- Team Development: Mentor junior team members and participate in staff training and supervision as required. Depending on your experience, you may also take on line management responsibilities.
- Travel Requirements: Be willing to travel to client locations, although most work will be office-based.
Personal and Professional Qualities
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- ACA qualified or equivalent.
- Experience with UK GAAP and IFRS financial reporting.
- Background in a professional practice, ideally within an accounting advisory team, with experience in providing written accounting advice to clients.
- Strong understanding of UK financial reporting requirements.
- Ability to demonstrate commercial awareness and add value.
- Excellent project management and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience working with clients and supervising junior staff.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
