What Does an IT Technician Do?

- Assist in the support of computers, wireless/wired networks, software systems, data cables, printers, and other technology devices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to hardware, software, and network configurations.
- Install or assist service personnel in the installation of computer hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, and printers.
- Perform troubleshooting for both wired and wireless network configurations.
- Network Management:
- Identify, troubleshoot, install, and terminate different types of copper data cables.
- Punch down lines at patch panels and crimp ends on wires to ensure proper network connectivity.
- Respond to room calls with technology issues, including IP phones, guest room entertainment systems, wired/wireless high-speed internet, and various wiring problems.
- Customer Service:
- Cover the phones for the Help Desk and assist guests and other clients with their technical needs.
- Greet guests and provide friendly, efficient service while addressing their technology-related concerns.
- Interview users or guests to collect information about technical problems and guide them through diagnostic procedures to find solutions.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work with the IT team on more complex issues impacting users.
- Communicate findings to Tier 2 and Tier 3 support when issues cannot be resolved at the first level.
- Collaborate with Inventory Specialists and Supervisors to ensure proper handling and movement of IT-related products across various hotel properties.
- Administrative Duties:
- Monitor the IT ticketing system, update, and solve tickets as required to maintain efficient service.
- Assist with receiving and movement of IT-related products at the various properties.
- Coordinate with Inventory Specialists and Supervisors to ensure procedures are followed correctly.
- Quality Assurance:
- Ensure accuracy in cash handling and transactions when assisting with billing or payment processes.
- Maintain proper documentation and records related to technical support and services provided.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to the company’s drug-free and tobacco/nicotine-free policies.
- Follow all hotel and banquet standards, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe and professional work environment.
- Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation procedures when working in areas that may involve kitchen technology.
Required Qualifications
To be successful in the IT Technician role, you should meet the following qualifications:
Education:
- Associate’s Degree: An Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school is required.
- Certifications: A CompTIA A+ certification is required at a minimum. Additional certifications such as CompTIA Network+ (N+) and Security+ (S+), Cisco Certified Technician (CCT) or Cisco Certified Network Technician (CCNT), and Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) or Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) are highly encouraged and applicable.
Experience:
- Technical Experience: At least one year of technical experience is required. Experience in a related field, such as benefits management, customer service, or prior IT support roles, may be considered in lieu of direct technician experience.
- Specialty Experience: Prior experience with specialty pharmacy services, call center customer service, prior authorization management, and patient financial assistance programs is strongly preferred.
Skills:
- Technical Proficiency: Solid understanding of computer hardware, software, and network systems. Proficiency in troubleshooting and resolving technical issues.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with guests, team members, and other healthcare providers.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to identify and resolve technical problems efficiently and effectively.
- Organizational Skills: Strong ability to multitask, stay organized, and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Customer Service Skills: Friendly and helpful attitude when assisting guests and clients with their technical needs.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail to ensure accurate data entry and processing of technical tasks.
- Teamwork: Ability to work collaboratively with other IT team members and departments to achieve common goals.
- Physical Ability: Ability to lift up to 25 lbs consistently and up to 50 lbs infrequently to handle IT equipment and supplies.
Physical Requirements
This role involves both physical and mental tasks to ensure effective technical support and operations:
- Physical Activity: Ability to sit, stand, and move around the office and hotel properties for extended periods.
- Manual Dexterity: Good hand-eye coordination and the ability to use computer systems, keyboards, and other office equipment efficiently.
