Overall Job Purpose
We are seeking an Associate Director to join our established and growing Accounting and Financial Reporting (AFR) team in our London office. This team operates within the broader Accounting and Business Advisory services under Consulting.
In this role, you will spend 50% of your time on chargeable client work and the remaining 50% on business development. Your client portfolio will consist of various entities, including large corporations, private equity-backed companies, and privately-owned businesses. Typical AFR projects include:
- Preparing year-end statutory accounts (compliance)
- Conducting pre-audit readiness reviews and support
- Performing agreed-upon procedures
- Engaging in financial reporting advisory and consultancy on specific client issues
- Providing ad-hoc secondment support to fill gaps in client teams
As the lead for Accounting and Financial Reporting, you will manage a tailored portfolio of clients based on your unique skills and interests. You will be responsible for maintaining high standards of client service and quality of work while actively coaching and developing junior team members. Your role will also involve ensuring proper delegation of workloads among team members.
A strong understanding of UK GAAP (FRS 102, Section 1A), IFRS, and fundamental accounting principles is essential.
A significant aspect of this role involves contributing to business development. As an Associate Director, you will receive coaching and support to help identify opportunities, attract new clients, and participate in comprehensive multi-service line pitches.
At RSM, the development of our people is crucial. If you demonstrate your talent and potential, there are ample opportunities for career progression and participation in RSM’s leadership development programs.
Responsibilities
- Lead Client Services: Deliver accounting and financial reporting services to your client portfolio.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other service lines, such as Audit and Tax, and report to the client relationship Partner on additional advisory matters and client care.
- Client Service Excellence: Uphold exceptional client service principles at all times.
- Financial Management: Oversee the working capital of projects, including budgeting, cost management, billing, and debt recovery.
- Resource Planning: Ensure effective resource planning and brief team members appropriately to deliver projects per RSM’s quality standards and procedures.
- Business Development Participation: Collaborate with the Partner group to create a coordinated business development strategy. Actively contribute to the growth of the department and firm by targeting and generating leads, supporting proposals for new clients, and agreeing on projects with existing clients.
- Client Insights: Provide valuable insights to clients by leveraging the firm’s extensive resources and facilitating introductions to other service lines.
- Team Leadership: Act as a senior team member and leader, serving as a role model for junior managers.
- Coaching and Development: Mentor and develop team members, including conducting performance appraisals.
- Continuous Learning: Maintain an advanced level of technical knowledge through ongoing education and training, fulfilling CPD requirements.
- Quality Oversight: Review work completed by managers, supervisors, and assistants, ensuring adherence to firm policies and procedures.
- Additional Duties: Undertake any other responsibilities within the scope of the role as requested by the Office Managing Partner.
- Travel Requirements: Be willing to travel to client sites or regional offices, although most work will be office-based within our growing team.
Personal and Professional Qualities
To be considered for this role, candidates should possess:
- ACA or ACCA qualification (or equivalent) with at least three years of experience at the managerial level.
- Experience managing a portfolio of client work within a professional practice, with a background in audit being advantageous due to complementary skills.
- A robust accounting and financial reporting skill set, with specialization in areas such as IFRS, US GAAP, or complex UK GAAP reporting, including group reorganizations and consolidations.
- Strong communication skills with a proven track record of building lasting client relationships.
- An adaptable and collaborative team player who can work effectively with individuals at all levels, from trainees to Partners.
- Advanced coaching and development skills, with prior experience as a line manager.
- A proactive approach to business development and the ability to contribute positively to this area.
- Excellent proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Word.
- The ability to work independently and deliver results as a self-starter.
