You’ll also provide financial reporting advice and collaborate with audit and tax teams on various assignments.

Our clients span a wide range of sectors, including retail, media and technology, travel, manufacturing, and private equity-backed entities. With a personal, Partner- and Director-led approach, we serve as trusted advisers to a diverse clientele, from small owner-managed businesses to large corporate organizations.

Overall Job Purpose

As a Manager, you will assist the Department Head in daily operations while managing your own portfolio of clients. Your goal will be to uphold the highest standards of client service, build and nurture client relationships, and actively contribute to the department’s growth through identifying opportunities and engaging in business development activities.

You will provide GAAP support and advisory services to our clients and guide them through their audit processes. Strong managerial and technical skills, along with in-depth knowledge of FRS 102, FRS 101, and Companies Act reporting requirements, are essential. Experience with IFRS is preferred, and expertise in areas such as acquisition accounting, share-based payments, and debt modifications is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

  • Client Portfolio Management: Oversee a diverse portfolio of clients, determining resource requirements and ensuring the team possesses the relevant skills and experience needed.
  • Client Liaison: Establish timetables and meet deadlines for deliverables while being the primary point of contact for clients and understanding their business needs.
  • Team Oversight: Monitor team progress against budgets, ensuring effective communication with all departments and identifying client needs for service.
  • Staff Development: Review work completed by junior team members, provide constructive feedback, and proactively identify training needs.
  • Technical Expertise: Maintain a high level of technical knowledge through continuous learning and support AFR Directors and Partners with technical advice as needed.
  • Client Engagement: Engage with clients throughout the year, consistently practicing exceptional client service principles.
  • Financial Monitoring: Track practice management system reports to ensure the profitable recoverability of work in progress and timely billing.
  • Cross-Selling Opportunities: Develop in-depth knowledge of the firm’s services, seek opportunities for cross-selling, and respond to client needs with tailored solutions.
  • Recruitment Involvement: Participate in the recruitment process for specialist hires and graduate recruits, leading initial interviews and making recommendations.
  • Performance Management: Manage the appraisal process for the AFR team, setting appropriate objectives and development plans for junior staff.
  • Administrative Duties: Attend to any administrative departmental and office issues and complete ad hoc assignments as necessary.

Key Performance Measures

  • Deliver high-quality service, ensuring that deadlines are consistently met.
  • Achieve utilization, profitability, and recovery targets.
  • Enhance recoveries and engagement margins within your client portfolio.
  • Cross-sell additional services and introduce other service lines to clients, leading to new business and fee increases.
  • Adhere to the firm’s procedures and values, demonstrating ownership and accountability for assignment completion.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor, representing the firm positively through your conduct and attitude.

Personal and Professional Qualities

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • ACA/ACCA qualification with a minimum of three years of post-qualification experience and at least one year managing a full client portfolio.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and experience with accounting software.
  • In-depth knowledge of UK financial reporting requirements.
  • Well-developed interpersonal skills for effective client and colleague engagement.
  • Excellent organizational and time management capabilities.
  • Availability to work in the office at least three days a week for face-to-face collaboration.
