Role Overview
In this role, you will progress quickly, gaining responsibility early on. By your second year, you’ll take on more senior tasks, including mentoring new trainees. You will also receive internal training from our professional development team, and study for the AAT qualification, followed by ACA or ACCA certification.
You’ll work in a client-facing role, developing essential skills and knowledge needed to become a trusted business adviser.
Key Responsibilities
As an Accounts Assistant, you will:
- Prepare annual financial statements, including statutory accounts, mostly under FRS102, and consolidated accounts for group clients.
- Develop a thorough understanding of clients and their businesses.
- Keep your manager updated on any issues, ensuring work is completed to agreed standards and recording all tasks clearly.
- Communicate with clients regarding accounting work via phone, email, and possibly during on-site visits.
- Collaborate with the audit and tax teams to provide seamless service and meet deadlines.
- Contribute ideas to improve the efficiency of the accounts preparation process.
- Manage tasks for your portfolio of clients, ensuring work is completed on time and within budget.
Key Skills
To excel in this role, you should have:
- Accuracy: Ensuring transactions are processed correctly.
- Judgment: Ability to assess situations and reach conclusions, knowing when to seek advice.
- Organization: Planning is crucial to meet deadlines.
- Client Focus: Building strong relationships with clients and promptly responding to their queries. Willingness to work on-site with clients when needed.
- IT Skills: Proficiency in software like CaseView, Excel, and cloud accounting platforms like Xero is preferred.
- Commercial Awareness: Understanding each client’s business and industry to provide better context for assignments and identify risks.
Qualifications
- Commitment to completing the AAT qualification, followed by ACA or ACCA certification.
- A-Level (or equivalent): Minimum 112 UCAS points from your top three A-levels, excluding General Studies.
- GCSE: Minimum Grade 5 in English Language and Maths (or equivalent).
