Role Overview

We are seeking a Director for our NY Metro Transit Rail Planning team. This position requires a leader with extensive experience in transit and passenger rail planning and project development. The Director will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of our projects while balancing client responsiveness with sound technical analysis and creativity. This role also emphasizes the use of digital technology to deliver innovative passenger rail solutions for generations to come.

Responsibilities

As the Director of NYM Transit Rail Planning, you will report directly to the Vice President of the department. Your main responsibilities will include:

• Leadership in Business Development: The Director will spearhead business development strategies, focusing on industry outreach and managing responses to agency Requests for Proposals (RFPs). You will leverage AECOM’s extensive global resources and the digital AECOM toolkit to support these efforts.
• Client Management and Project Oversight: You will provide project and client management, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and budget for all project assignments. Your experience will guide your ability to manage both AECOM and subconsultant resources effectively.
• Technical Expertise: As a Director, you will provide invaluable technical expertise and guidance to your team and clients. Your role will involve mentoring and building capacity within the transit rail planning staff, ensuring they are equipped to meet the demands of our projects.
• Collaborative Coordination: You will coordinate with AECOM’s multidisciplinary planning and engineering practices, ensuring that all facets of our projects are aligned and moving forward efficiently.
• Support for New Business Initiatives: The Director will support new business development activities, including participation in industry events and assisting in the creation of client proposals.

Qualifications

To be considered for this role, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Educational Background: A BA/BS in Engineering, Transportation Planning, Business, or a related field, along with 12 years of relevant experience. At least two years should be in a leadership role.
• Preferred Experience: A Master’s degree in a relevant field is highly desirable, alongside 20 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
• Technical Familiarity: Candidates should be familiar with the development of passenger rail alignments and systems design.
• Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, alongside strong time management abilities and attention to detail, are essential for the Director role.
• Software Proficiency: Proficiency with Microsoft Office software is required, and having a professional planning or engineering license in NY, NJ, and/or CT is preferred.

Work Environment and Expectations

This position requires a commitment to being in the office a minimum of three days a week and the ability to travel locally within the New York Metro area. The Director will be a key figure in ensuring the success of the NYM Transit Rail Planning team, contributing to both the company’s goals and the community’s needs.
