The Mechanical Engineer for Turnaround Support will oversee pre-turnaround planning, contractor supervision, and ensure safety and quality compliance during the turnaround execution phase. Job Description

The role will involve supporting pre-turnaround works, supervising contractors, ensuring proper materials management, and ensuring compliance with safety and operational standards during the turnaround period. You will work closely with contractors to ensure smooth execution of tasks and safety protocols, as well as assist with various engineering duties including the management of stationary equipment installations and review of essential plans.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Turnaround Period (February)

  • Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (with a 30-minute lunch break)

Turnaround Period (March and April)

  • Working Hours: 8:00 AM – 8:00 PM (with a 30-minute lunch and 30-minute break at 4:00 PM)
  • Weekend work may be required based on the execution schedule.
  • Overtime applicable after 8 hours of work.

Main Duties

1. Review and Edit Plans and Documents:

  • Review and update the Health, Environmental, and Safety (HES) Plan.
  • Edit the Quality Assurance-Quality Control (QA-QC) Plan.
  • Review heavy lift plans and planning packages for stationary equipment (e.g., Heat Exchangers).

2. Contractor and Materials Management:

  • Oversee procurement and materials management, collaborating with contractors to ensure timely collection and delivery.
  • Facilitate contractor kick-off meetings to ensure smooth mobilization.

3. Scope and Contract Management:

  • Develop scopes of work for minor contracts, following client’s procedures.
  • Prepare variations to existing scopes, including cost estimates.
  • Prepare and issue daily permitting documents (Engineer will be permit trained).

4. Turnaround and Project Supervision:

  • Supervise contractor activities during the turnaround execution phase.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, quality, and operational standards.

Health, Environment, and Safety (HES) Requirements

  • Adhere to the company’s Health, Environmental, and Safety policies.
  • Participate in the client’s safety orientation program.
  • Ensure use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in compliance with the company’s contractor rules and regulations.
  • Compliance with the substance abuse control program, including random and compulsory drug testing as required.

Ideal Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate should possess strong technical expertise, excellent organizational skills, and be comfortable managing multiple priorities. You should have a collaborative approach, with a focus on maintaining safety, quality, and operational standards in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Skills and Qualifications

Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of stationary equipment installation for turnarounds.
  • Ability to develop and review engineering plans and contractor documentation.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with contractors and internal teams.

Education and Experience

  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience:
    • At least 10 years of field experience in the petrochemical industry.
    • A minimum of 10 years of experience supervising contractors during project execution in the petrochemical sector.
    • Knowledge and experience in turnaround planning and preparation.
    • Working knowledge of SAP (Systems, Applications, and Products in Data Processing).
