As a Senior Accounting Officer, you will oversee the accounting and tax operations of client files from start to finish, ensuring full compliance with Belgian GAAP and tax regulations. This includes managing the entire bookkeeping process, preparing annual accounts, handling VAT and corporate income tax returns, and liaising with external auditors and tax administrations.

Job Description:

In this role, you will be responsible for the following key tasks:

• Bookkeeping: Manage the full bookkeeping of client files using the accounting system Winbooks, covering accounts payable, receivable, banking, and miscellaneous operations under Belgian GAAP.
• Year-End Entries: Prepare year-end entries after completing necessary reconciliations, including VAT, payroll, and banking balances.
• Audit Coordination: Conduct year-end audits with external auditors, if required.
• VAT Returns: Prepare and submit periodic VAT returns, including Intracom and client listings.
• Tax Administration Contact: Act as the primary point of contact with tax authorities for VAT audits or information requests.
• Corporate Income Tax (CIT): Calculate CIT provisions, prepare and file CIT returns, and manage inquiries from tax authorities.
• Withholding Tax Forms: Prepare and submit applicable withholding tax forms.
• NBB Surveys: Complete National Bank of Belgium surveys when required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee complete bookkeeping for multiple client files.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant accounting, tax, and auditing regulations.
• Handle the submission of tax returns and required documentation to tax authorities.
• Lead communication with external auditors and tax authorities.
• Assist in preparing and filing statutory annual accounts.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

We are looking for an individual who possesses:

• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication skills in French or Dutch, with English proficiency as a bonus.
• Ability to manage multiple client files effectively and work independently.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to resolve complex accounting and tax issues.

Skills and Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Economics, Accountancy, or related field.
• Membership in ITTA is a plus.
• 2-5 years of accounting experience, with a focus on Belgian GAAP, VAT, and CIT.
• Fluency in French or Dutch, and English is advantageous.
• Proficient in using accounting software (experience with Winbooks is a plus).

Education and Experience:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Accountancy, or similar field.
• Experience: Minimum 2-5 years of relevant accounting experience.
